Dumont Burger

314 Bedford Avenue
Brooklyn, NY

Ranking: 13

Review:

Don’t miss the DuMont Burger. That’s the message from the ‘Burger of the Month Club’. The majority of the club loved this Brooklyn based burger, with only a few low rankings putting it just outside of our top ten. Just a five minute walk off the L trains’ Bedford Ave stop (the first stop in Brooklyn), this small location is an offshoot of DuMont Restaurant, the popular Brooklyn restaurant (if you are going to DuMont Burger, make sure you have the Bedford Street address, not the Union St address, which is Dumont Restaurant). DuMont Burger has one table inside that sits eight people, as well as approximately eight seats at the bar, with another ten or so available at a railing counter that runs along two sides of the room. They also have outdoor seating, weather permitting.

The 8oz DuMont Burger is served on a soft, toasted brioche bun and comes with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and both thin pickle slices (slightly sweet) and a pickle spear. Cheese options include American, cheddar, Monterey jack, gruyere and Danish blue. Other topping are bacon, avocado, caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms. The burger has a phenomenal taste, which is due to the best secret about Dumont Burger: the burger is cooked on a charcoal grill! The indoor grill, built into the kitchen seems to give the burger outstanding flavor. The combination of the beef flavor, bacon, sweet onions and white cheddar makes for a Grade A burger. The traditional fries are thinly cut but not to the point of shoestring fries.

Other points to note: The DuMont Mini is a 5oz version of the DuMont Burger and comes on toasted ciabattina. There is also DuMont To Go right next store to DuMont Burger, where you can get a burger to go if the wait for a seat at DuMont Burger is long. Be aware however, that even though the two restaurants are basically attached and make the same food, they have different kitchens!

If you are serious about eating the best burgers in NY City, DuMont Burger is one you have to have!

deep fried pickle chips - nom nom nom

The pickles are made in-house and a side dish of deep-fried pickle chips is a damn fine way to get your calorie count up. Loved the burger, of course. too.

Time for a Revisit

I know that the #12 spot on this list is a good spot, but I just do not agree that there are eleven other places that have a better burger than Dumont Burger.  DB recently revamped their menu (wisely keeping the old favorites), and the burger, if anything, is better than ever. My wife and I stopped at Dumont Burger about a week ago, first time in a while, maybe a year or so.  I had the large burger with Monterrey cheese and bacon, and DB kindly provided sliced pickles, sliced onion and sliced tomato on the side, as well as a pickle spear.  When I picked up that burger, squeezing gently and watching in pleasure as the juices dripped out, I almost swooned from the first taste of that perfectly grilled cheeseburger.  The saddest moment of the day was the final bite of that burger.  I am here to tell you:  that was one damned fine burger! I think it's time for another visit, guys.  Dumont Burger is better than ever, and it belongs in your top three. Oh year, the fries were pretty good, too, as was the Lagunitas IPA.  And my wife's silky and luxurious mac and cheese, along with the generous portions of lardon, was up there as well. Now I'm making myself hungry...

A Brooklyn Gem!

One of the best burgers in NY City.  If you get the chance, you should find your way to this burger!
