Burger Summit Logo

The Summit Food and Wine Festival being held on the weekend of July 24th - 26th isn’t just another food festival. Yes, there will be celebrity chefs, Food Network personalities, tasting events, wine panels, and chef demos, some of which we’ll be hosting.

Bobby’s Burger Palace Opening at Mohegan Sun

Darren and Bobby Flay

‘When most people see a map of the country, they see states or regions.  I see ingredients’.  That was one of Bobby Flay’s first comments as he addressed the media and crowd at the press conference that included the opening of his fourth ‘Bobby’s Burger Palace’ (BBP) restaurant.  The grand re-opening of the Winter Entrance at the Casino of the Earth at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut included other eateries as well, but I was there for the burgers.  And as I learned, regional ingredients are the bases for Bobby’s Burger Palace.

Bobby Van's JFK Opening

Leave work a little early - check
Cocktails - check
Hors D'eouvres - check
Driver's License and Boarding Pass - check????

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard that Jason, Marc and I were venturing out to JFK airport to celebrate the recent opening of Bobby Van's Grille at the American Airlines Terminal 8.  If you've been to any of Bobby Van's other locations, you know the distinct look and feel, which doesn't necessarily scream...airport.  But as the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

A Cholesterol Filled Adventure to Trailer Park

Trailer Park Cropped ours

The Burger Heavyweights were at it again this past Thursday, June 11, 2009 - Destination: Trailer Park Lounge.

If you have not been to Trailer Park, you have no idea what you are missing. It is difficult to believe that a place like this is situated right in the middle of NYC. This has to be the most unique burger place in the metro area, and likely the entire northeast for that matter.

The Burger Heavyweights

Shake Shack Group Shot

This past Wednesday, May 20, 2009, I (Jason) met up with some of the NYC burger heavyweights at Shake Shack to grab a burger.

Burger Triumph!

In 2008, Darren and I went to the Indianapolis 500 (our first car race, which turned out to be a lot of fun). Darren's friends, who recently moved from NYC back home to Indiana, are familiar with our quest to find great burgers and told us we had to go to Bub's Burgers and Ice Cream. Quickly after arriving we discovered a burger challenge - if you can eat the 1 pound burger, which starts at 22 oz before cooking, you get your signed picture on the wall.

'The Perils Of Picking Blind'

For those BOTM Members bold or crazy enough (or those who are unprepared for their turn to select a burger) there is the ‘Blind Pick’.  This means that the nominated burger has never been tried by the person nominating it.  The selection is based on word of mouth, a web review or some ridiculous factor that caused the BOTM Member to pick it.  So far as folk lore tells us, there have only be four blind picks in the BOTM Club history.  I know, because I made one of them.  Yes, my name is Darren W, and I picked blind once.

The Perfect Burger

The perfect burger is a compilation of its individual parts, with each one working in harmony with the other. Therefore, in order to describe the perfect burger each component must be described individually, then properly assembled.

Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub – The Largest Burger in America

When we heard that there was a pub within driving distance of New York that served a 15 pound hamburger, we had no choice but to immediately begin planning a road trip. I mean think about that – FIFTEEN POUNDS OF HAMBURGER – that is two times the size of most newborn babies – and equal to 60 quarter pounders from McDonalds. There was no way that this could be passed up.
